Odesa region lost a statesman Ivan the Great

On December 4, Ivan Macedonian, a longtime leader, statesman and one of the most respected figures in Bolhrad district and Odesa region, died at the age of 84.

The Bolhrad District Council announced his death, expressing condolences to his family and everyone who knew and worked with him.

Ivan Makedonsky was born in Bolhrad and spent more than six decades working in the agricultural, party and government spheres. He began his career in 1962 as chief engineer of the Druzhba collective farm in Kirovohrad Oblast. After serving in the army, he returned to his native district, where he worked as a senior process engineer at the Bolhrad District Association "Silo Farming", chief engineer, manager of the Krynychi branch of the "Silo Farming", chief mechanical engineer, and then head of the Bolhrad SPMK-3 of the Odessspetssilhozmontazh trust.

In 1985, he became the second secretary of the Bolhrad District Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine, and in 1988-1991 he chaired the district committee. In 1990, he was elected as a Member of Parliament of Ukraine of the first convocation. At the same time, he held the positions of chairman of the Bolhrad District Council and representative of the President of Ukraine in the district.

From 1996 to 2002, Mr. Makedonsky headed the Bolhrad District State Administration. During his time in leadership positions, he received a number of state awards, from the Medal for Labor Valor to the Honorary Awards of the President and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. In 2002, he was also awarded the Order of St. Volodymyr, II degree.

After leaving the DSA, he became an advisor to the head of the Odesa Regional State Administration, and in 2003 he headed the Odesa Regional Organization of the Trade Union of Agricultural Workers of Ukraine. In this position, he was responsible for strengthening the financial stability of the organization and establishing cooperation with district leaders. The Bolgrad District Council expressed condolences to the family and friends in connection with the irreparable loss.

Also on October 21, Vadym Tiutiukin, founder of Odesa Online, died in intensive care after a long illness. He worked for the Krug and Dumska TV channels, and for some time headed and managed a number of local media projects.
