"Remember: carbon monoxide is an invisible threat! It is colorless and odorless, formed during incomplete combustion of fuel (wood, gas, coal). The gas accumulates imperceptibly in the room and quickly poisons the body, depriving the blood of the ability to carry oxygen. Even a few minutes of exposure can be deadly," the SES wrote.
For the safety of yourself and your loved ones, it was advised to regularly check the serviceability of stoves, boilers and chimneys, not to use faulty or damaged heating appliances, to ensure proper ventilation of the premises, not to close the ventilation openings and, if possible, to install carbon monoxide detectors.
Earlier, the State Emergency Service reported that a 12-year-old girl and two adults with symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning were hospitalized in Mykolaiv. According to preliminary data, the incident was caused by a malfunction of a gas boiler in a residential building.
