Ex-executive in Mykolaiv convicted of road accident: hit a woman on a crosswalk

The Central District Court of Mykolaiv has found the former rector of Mykolaiv National University named after V.O. Sukhomlynskyi guilty of committing a traffic accident with grave consequences.

We are talking about Valeriy Budak, who in 2024, driving a Mazda CX-7, hit a 64-year-old woman at a pedestrian crossing.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Velyka Morska and Vadyma Blahovisnoho (formerly Nikolska) streets.

According to the court, the woman was crossing the road on a regulated crosswalk. She was seriously injured in the accident.

Earlier, Intent wrote that the rector of Mykolaiv University received a bribe for issuing a diploma. The court found him guilty and fined him and banned him from holding leadership positions for a year.

The Zavodskyi District Court of Mykolaiv found the former acting rector of the International Technological University "Mykolaiv Polytechnic" guilty of extortion and receiving an undue benefit for issuing a bachelor's degree.

Last year, an educator was detained in Mykolaiv on suspicion of helping her husband evade mobilization. According to the investigation, in September, as a member of the admission committee of a local college, she offered a local resident assistance with admission to the educational institution. For this, she asked for a monetary reward. Studying at the college would give the man the right to defer military service. The woman was chosen a measure of restraint in the form of detention. She now faces up to four years in prison.
