A 12-year-old girl and two adults with symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning were hospitalized in Mykolaiv. According to preliminary data, the incident was caused by a malfunction of a gas boiler in a residential building.

This was reported by the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service in Mykolaiv region.

The day before, the 101 line received a report about the hospitalization of a 12-year-old girl with a preliminary diagnosis of combustion product poisoning. The child was promptly taken to the hospital to receive the necessary assistance. Two adults, a woman and a man born in 1949, were injured along with her, but they refused hospitalization.

Rescuers emphasize that in order to prevent such incidents, it is necessary to regularly check the serviceability of gas appliances and chimneys with the involvement of specialists, ensure proper ventilation and not block ventilation ducts. It is also strictly forbidden to use home-made or faulty equipment. Experts recommend installing carbon monoxide detectors in homes, and in case of a specific odor or deterioration in health, immediately go out into the fresh air and call emergency services.

Earlier, Mykolaiv police investigated the deaths of two young children who were left unattended by their mother overnight. According to the preliminary version, the cause of death was carbon monoxide poisoning. Investigative actions are ongoing to establish all the details of the tragedy and bring the perpetrators to justice.

During the inspection of the apartment , law enforcement officers noted that the hot water tap was open in the bathroom, which caused the apartment to be filled with steam and condensation on the ceiling. No external signs of violent death were found, but the children's bodies were sent for examination to determine the final cause.

The mother was detained. The police initiated a pre-trial investigation under Part 1 of Article 166 (malicious failure to fulfill parental duties) and Part 3 of Article 135 (leaving in danger, which caused death) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The woman faces up to 8 years in prison.
