Magnitogorskiy lane in Odesa was renamed in honor of the artist Adolf Loza, who made the Odesa School of Painting famous.
According to the Odesa City Council, Adolf Loza, who was born on January 14, 1931, in Mariupol, devoted most of his life to his work in Odesa. He graduated from the Hrekov Odesa Art School and became a follower of the famous Odesa School of Painting.
His paintings, full of marine motifs and sunlight, convey the beauty of the seaside region.
The artist admitted that the sea was a source of inspiration for him, providing space for imagination. His oeuvre includes hundreds of paintings that are kept in museums in Ukraine and many countries around the world, such as Canada, the United States, Japan, and Poland.
Adolf Loza devoted the last years of his life to working with mythological and biblical subjects, as well as writing prose, which his friends collected in the book "Notes of the Artist". His daughter Natalia Loza continues the family's creative traditions today.
Recently, the head of the Odesa Regional State Administration, Oleh Kiper, told reporters that he supports renaming in honor of modern heroes, but is not against historical literary figures such as Pushkin.
Earlier, Oleg Kiper signed a decree to rename a number of streets and alleys in Odesa and the region. After that, Mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov reacted to the renaming of streets in Odesa and launched an anonymous vote.
"Based on the logic of the 'decolonizers', we must abandon everything that has made Odesa a global brand. In simple terms, it "zeroes out" our city," the mayor said at the time.
During an interview with Intent.Insight, Serhiy Hutsalyuk, head of the Southern Interregional Department of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory, said that the city council is to blame for all the controversial issues of renaming Odesa streets.
