Man Detained in Odesa for Assaulting Serviceman with Tear Gas and a Weapon

Police detained a man who had inflicted bodily harm on a serviceman on Italian Boulevard in Odesa.

The incident occurred on February 22. It has been preliminarily established that a 28-year-old resident of Berezovsky district started a conflict with the military personnel of the territorial center for recruitment and social support during the verification of documents. The man sprayed tear gas in the face of one of the soldiers and made several shots in his direction with a weapon of preliminary traumatic effect, after which he fled.

The victim was taken to a medical facility. The offender was detained by operatives of the territorial police unit. The man was handed over to the SBU investigators.

Earlier, on the evening of February 3, Odesa police officers seized the driver from a locked car and first took him to a hospital, and later handed him over to the military of the territorial center for recruitment and social support.

Patrol police also tried to detain the man on January 27, but failed due to the resistance of others. During the check of his documents, the inspectors found that the 40-year-old man was wanted under Article 210 (Violation of the rules of military registration by conscripts, persons liable for military service, reservists) of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses.

Earlier, patrol police had to call several additional crews to detain the man and take him to the territorial center for recruitment and social support. The conflict took place on January 19 near the Angelica market in Odesa.

In December 2024, in Odesa, a driver refused to be tested and injured a serviceman. The employee of the TSC went to the hospital with a concussion and was hospitalized.
