Kherson plans to purchase brachytherapy equipment worth UAH 45 million to improve the treatment of cancer patients. The cancer center project already has ready-made documentation, but has not yet been funded.

This was reported by the Center for Public Investigations with reference to data from the DREAM eco-platform.

A project has been developed in Kherson to purchase modern medical equipment for brachytherapy, one of the most effective cancer treatments. It is to be implemented on the basis of the radiology building No. 1 of the Kherson Regional Cancer Center, a municipal non-profit enterprise located on Krymska Street.

The project is part of the Single Project Portfolio and is of strategic importance for the region. Its goal is to create an opportunity for high-precision internal radiation therapy procedures for patients with cancer. This will be made possible by installing equipment that meets international safety and efficiency standards.

The center notes that the institution is currently unable to provide a full range of oncological and radiological care, and patients are forced to seek treatment in other areas. The new brachytherapy system will allow for up to 10-15 procedures per day, increase the effectiveness of treatment of localized forms of cancer, and reduce the need to transport patients.

The total estimated budget of the project is UAH 45 million. Funding has not yet been confirmed.

The project envisages the purchase and commissioning of a high-dose brachytherapy machine based on Iridium-192, a planning station, a video surveillance and audio communication system, as well as servers for data storage and uninterruptible power supply. The equipment package should include specialized applicators for gynecological, urological, dermatological, and ENT brachytherapy.

The Kherson Regional Oncology Center is also launching an infrastructure project to overhaul part of the radiology building to install a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner. The repair will be carried out on the first floor of the building, and more than UAH 45 million has been allocated for the project.

In addition, a modular oxygen station is planned to be built on the territory of the Antonivka Oncology Center, which will allow the hospital to produce medical oxygen on its own and fully meet the needs of patients without dependence on external suppliers.
