He was in charge of the hospital when it was occupied by the Russian military and has now been sentenced for this. A court in absentia sentenced a former deputy director of a medical institution in Kherson region to 10 years in prison for collaborating with the occupiers.

This was reported by the press service of the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office.

According to the investigation, in July 2022, during the temporary occupation, the man agreed to head the seized hospital, where the Russian military set up a hospital. They used the premises of the institution for the accommodation and treatment of their military personnel.

Later, he re-registered the medical institution under Russian law as the Beryslav Central District Hospital and, having taken the position of the so-called chief physician, actually managed its activities. The convict organized the work of the staff, signed documents, interacted with the occupation administration and ensured the functioning of the hospital in the system created by the aggressor state.

The court found the deputy director of the Beryslav Central District Hospital guilty of collaboration and sentenced him to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.

In addition to imprisonment, the convict is banned for 15 years from holding positions related to the performance of organizational, administrative, and economic functions in state and local government, including medical institutions. The verdict was passed in absentia - he will serve his actual sentence after detention. The pre-trial investigation was conducted by the SBU in Kherson region.

Also, while Kherson was under occupation, the seized university launched training according to Russian standards, with new programs and teachers. One of those involved in this process, according to the investigation, was a local scholar who has now been notified of suspicion. Law enforcement officers found that the 58-year-old candidate of technical sciences accepted the offer of representatives of the occupation administration and began working at this institution.
