The Department of Education and Science of the Odesa City Council has extended the distance learning for city schoolchildren due to the unfavorable weather forecast.
This was announced by the director of the department, Olena Buynevych.
"The decision on distance learning has been extended. According to weather forecasters, the weather will get worse," she said.
The Ukrhydrometeorological Center of the State Emergency Service predicted heavy rains, thunderstorms and wind gusts of 15-20 meters per second on October 8-9, so the danger level is set at yellow. On October 8, heavy rains are forecast in the morning and afternoon in the south of Odesa region, and the danger level is set at the second level.
"Weather conditions can lead to complications in the work of energy, construction, utility companies and traffic," meteorologists said.
Schools, kindergartens, and out-of-school institutions were also switched to distance learning on October 7 due to unfavorable weather forecasts.
Meanwhile, the Standing Committee on Social Policy and Labor of the Odesa City Council agreed to submit to the deputies changes to the program of social services and other types of assistance to vulnerable groups of the population for UAH 126.3 million.
The bad weather caused serious damage: flooding of roads, power outages, property damage, and trees falling down. According to the Meteorological Service, 94 mm of precipitation fell in Odesa on September 30, more than 220% of the monthly norm for September (42 mm).
Law enforcement officers began inspections and investigations at the offices of the Odesa municipality and district administrations as part of criminal proceedings under Part 3 of Article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (negligence that caused death).
