Yevhen Tomak, a native of the village of Ozerne in the Odesa region, who became Prime Minister of Romania on June 5, resigned on the morning of June 14.
This was reported by Digi24, citing President Nicușor Dan.
The former prime minister himself posted a message on social media following an official statement that he was abandoning his attempts to secure 233 votes in parliament to form the next executive branch. Eugene Tomachad 10 days to form a new government and convince parliamentary parties to grant him a vote of confidence, but he soon realized he had failed.
Eugene Tomac (Eugene in Romanian) is a Romanian politician, a former member of the Romanian Parliament, and currently a member of the European Parliament. He served as president of the People’s Movement Party from 2015 to 2020. Professor of history at the Evdokia Gurmuzaki Institute. Born on June 27, 1981, in the village of Ozernoye, Safyanivka community, Izmail district. He moved to Romania at the age of 17.
In addition to his rolesas a member of parliamentand MEP,Tomac alsoserved as an advisor to President Traian Băsescu on foreign policy and international relations. He supports the Movement for the Unification of Romania and Moldova.
In May 2026,theRomanianParliamentdismissed the governmentof Ilie Bolojanof the National Liberal Party (<i>PNL-Partidul Național Liberal</i><i>)</i>, passing a vote of no confidence by a near-record margin.
Now,Adrian Vestea, president of the Brașov County Council and vice president of Romania’s National Liberal Party, will attempt to accomplish what Eugen Toma could not. Prime Ministerial candidate Adrian Vestea stated that he is taking on this responsibility during a time of political crisis.
