In Ochakiv, a draft decision on the adoption of the Household Waste Management Program for five years - from 2026 to 2030 - has been submitted to the city council for consideration. It is planned to spend UAH 64 million on its implementation, although this amount may be adjusted. Funding should come not only from the city budget, but also from the state budget, grants, and loans from international organizations.

The relevant draft decision was posted on the city council's website.

The key goal of the program is to systematically upgrade the entire solid waste management infrastructure and transition to modern methods of disposal. By 2030, the city authorities of Ochakiv plan to build a technological complex for sorting and recycling household waste.

In parallel, the city plans to reconstruct and rehabilitate the existing landfill, as well as to carry out its current repairs, including the construction of access roads and water supply. The program will also upgrade containers, garbage trucks and special equipment, approve waste accumulation standards, develop a new sanitary treatment scheme and change tariffs to cost.

In addition to the infrastructure changes, the program includes an inventory and contracts with all waste generators (households and businesses), as well as the organization of regular inspections and the elimination of illegal dumps.

Ochakiv's commitment to introduce waste sorting comes amid similar initiatives in the regional center. On May 20, Mykolaiv selected the winner of the tender, Waste To Energy Niko LLC, which will build a sorting line for solid waste treatment.

In September 2024, Mykolaiv agreed on the procedure for the operation of this line. It was reported that the sorting complex will be able to process up to 70% of the waste, and the remaining 30% will be buried. The project also stipulates that the company that wins the tender will transfer at least 10% of its profits to the maintenance of the landfill.
