At a checkpoint with the European Union, law enforcement officers detained a Ukrainian citizen who had betrayed the state. After the occupation of Crimea, he received a Russian passport, signed a contract with the aggressor country and fought against Ukraine.
This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General.
At the end of March 2024, in the context of a full-scale war, the man deliberately signed a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense to serve in the mobilization reserve. Later, he served in Russian troops as a scout and then as an operator of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
During his service, the traitor took part in hostilities on the side of the occupiers, in particular in the temporarily occupied territory of the Kherson region. For these actions, the man was served in absentia a notice of suspicion of high treason (Part 2 Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), put on the international wanted list and detention was chosen as a measure of restraint in absentia.
The offender was detained while trying to cross the state border through the Shehyni - Medyka checkpoint. He was personally served with a notice of suspicion, and the prosecutor's office has already filed a motion with the court to keep him in custody.
The detention was carried out by SBU investigators under the supervision of the Prosecutor General's Office. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
Earlier, a former city council official who voluntarily worked for the occupiers was served a notice of suspicion in Kherson. She held a position in the illegal administration and carried out orders of the Russian invaders.
Investigators served a notice of suspicion to Svitlana Serhiivna Vershinina, born on August 16, 1979, a citizen of Ukraine. The woman is suspected of committing a criminal offense under Part 5 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - voluntarily holding a position in illegal authorities in the temporarily occupied territory.
According to the investigation, during the occupation of Kherson, Vershinina held a position in the structure of the so-called "military-civilian administration of the Kherson region" created by Russian troops.
