Mykolaiv has initiated the construction of a shelter for patients and staff of a children's hospital. The new shelter will be able to protect people during enemy attacks and ensure the operation of the medical facility even during emergencies.
This was reported by Intent with reference to the DREAM ecosystem.
A project for a new shelter for a branch of the regional children's clinical hospital, the Center for Medical Rehabilitation and Palliative Care for Children, has been prepared in Mykolaiv. The shelter is designed for 150 people and should provide safe conditions for patients and medical staff during emergencies.
The project is part of the Unified Project Portfolio (UPP) and is being implemented as part of the Mykolaiv Oblast Development Strategy until 2027. It was initiated by the Department of Urban Development, Architecture, Capital Construction and Development Project Support of the Regional State Administration together with the Health Department of the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration.
According to the technical solution, the hospital will build a civil defense structure of group A-IV with a protection factor of 1000. The shelter will be able to withstand an air shock wave with a pressure of up to 100 kPa and will ensure autonomous stay of people for two days. It will be connected to the main medical building by an underground passage and will have three exits to the outside, located outside the zone of possible building collapse.
The project budget is estimated at UAH 99 million, of which UAH 97.5 million is planned for construction and another UAH 1.5 million for design. The facility currently needs funding: only 1.5% of the required amount from the city budget has been confirmed. The hospital has applied for a state subvention of UAH 76.6 million, but it has not yet been considered.
The project is intended to be part of a broader program to create a safe environment in medical institutions in Mykolaiv Oblast to ensure their sustainability even in crisis conditions.
It is also planned to build a shelter at the Kazankiv Multidisciplinary Hospital to ensure the safety of patients and doctors in case of danger. The shelter will be able to accommodate 220 people - 78 hospital staff and 142 patients or community members. The space will not only have a protective purpose, but will also be used for educational classes, art therapy, volunteer initiatives, and social events. About UAH 30 million is planned to be spent on the project.
