In the Voznesensk district of Mykolaiv region, forestry specialists carried out a clear sanitary felling on a 0.6-hectare plot. The activities took place near the village of Buzke.

This was reported by the State Ecological Inspectorate of the Southwestern District.

The State Ecological Inspectorate officially denied reports of possible violations during the logging. After receiving a complaint from citizens, inspectors went to the site and conducted a thorough inspection of the area within the Prybuzka forestry of the Voznesenskoye superforestry. The inspection revealed that the work was being carried out legally in accordance with a valid logging ticket.

Experts found that the trees were massively affected by the apical and six-tooth bark beetles. These pests damage the trunks of conifers, which leads to their rapid drying out, and the situation is aggravated by wood-destroying fungi that inhabit the affected areas. The situation is further complicated by the reproduction rate of insects. One female is capable of laying up to 120 eggs, and if the weather is warm, even two generations of the pest may appear during one season.

That is why experts emphasize that sanitary felling in the affected areas is a necessary measure. This allows to stop the further spread of insects in time and save healthy forests in the area from complete destruction.

Earlier, the Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor's Office served a notice of suspicion to the former head of one of the region's state forestry enterprises. The ex-director is accused of negligence under Part 2 of Article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. According to the investigation, the improper performance of official duties by the head led to serious losses for the state and caused severe consequences for the environmental or economic fund of the region.

The investigation found that the former head of the state-owned enterprise committed a gross violation by failing to ensure the proper use of forest land. Instead of preserving the forest fund, he organized the sowing of agricultural crops on a 32-hectare plot, which directly contradicts land and forestry legislation.
