A hospital in Mykolaiv region is planning to build a modern shelter to ensure the safety of patients and medical staff during threats. In addition to the protective function, the space will be used for social and educational activities.

This was reported by the Center for Public Investigations with reference to the Dream digital recovery ecosystem.

The Kazankiv Multidisciplinary Hospital plans to create a multifunctional shelter that will meet modern building standards. The project is aimed at improving the safety of patients and medical staff during threats, as well as the use of space in peacetime.

As noted in the project, according to the new building codes that came into force on November 1, 2023, all public buildings must have shelters. For the Kazankivska hospital, this means urgently arranging a shelter that will accommodate 220 people, including 78 medical staff and 142 patients or community members. In addition to its primary function, the shelter will be used for educational activities, art therapy, volunteer work, and social services.

The project is expected to raise almost UAH 30 million. Of this amount, UAH 750 thousand has already been allocated from the city budget for design. The initiators were the Kazankivka Village Council and the hospital.

According to the project description, the overhaul of engineering networks, including heating, ventilation, water supply, and sewage systems, is envisaged. Among other things, it is planned to install protective and airtight doors, special shutters, and dust filters. Special attention will be paid to the safety of people with limited mobility.

It is also planned to build a modern children's diagnostic center in Mykolaiv with the possibility of transition to a stationary building, as well as a civil defense shelter for 500 people. The total project estimate is almost UAH 790 million, of which only 0.53% is financed from the local budget.

In addition, it is planned to build a new building of the psychoneurological department of the Mykolaiv Regional Mental Health Center, for which more than UAH 328 million will be allocated to improve access to quality medical services for people with mental disorders.
