Three ex-police officers from Kherson region face 15 years in prison

In Kherson region, three former police officers who voluntarily sided with the Russian invaders after the occupation of part of the region and began working in illegal law enforcement agencies of the Russian Federation will be tried.

According to the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office, indictments against the former police officers on charges of collaboration have already been sent to court.

The investigation found that after the full-scale invasion of Russia and the seizure of part of the Kherson region, the defendants voluntarily agreed to cooperate with the occupation authorities. They took up positions in the illegally created "Main Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kherson Region," which operated under the control of the Russian military and the occupation administration.

In August 2022, one of the defendants became a so-called "district inspector for minors" in the fake police department of the Henichesk municipal district. According to the investigation, he performed the tasks of the occupation authorities and ensured the work of the pseudo-law enforcement agency in the temporarily occupied territory.

In July 2022, two more former law enforcement officers received pseudo-leadership positions in the occupation police and the illegal traffic police unit. They took part in the functioning of the security forces created by the Russians.

The prosecutor's office notes that all three defendants will be tried in absentia. They face up to 15 years in prison, confiscation of property and a ban on holding certain positions.

The pre-trial investigation in the case was conducted by Ukrainian law enforcement officers under the procedural supervision of the prosecutor's office.

Recently, a court in absentia sentenced the former"head" of the occupation administration in Skadovsk district of Kherson region to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property for cooperation with Russia.

Earlier, in the Kherson region, a court found a resident of the region guilty of collaboration, who headed an illegal"employment service" in Skadovsk during the occupation.

In addition, Yuriy Skrytskyi, who was a lawyer for the mayor of Kherson , Ihor Kolikhayev, was sentenced in absentia to 11 years in prison for aiding the aggressor state .

Earlier, the Kherson City Court found Andrii Hropianov, a former master of industrial training at the Kherson Professional Lyceum of Communications and Printing, guilty of collaboration and aiding the enemy. In 2022, he headed an educational institution illegally established by the occupiers in occupied Kherson.
