A committee of the Mykolaiv Regional Council endorsed a draft resolution to reorganize Maternity Hospital No. 3 by merging it with the Mykolaiv Regional Clinical Hospital.

This was announced duringa meeting of the committee on ecology, environmental protection, rational use of natural resources, tourism, and recreation.

The plan calls for creating a separate structural unit within the medical facility while maintaining its current location and scope of medical services.

During the discussion, council members raised the issue of the facility’s debt. According to them, the debt amounts to millions of hryvnias, specifically in unpaid wages and for supplied medications. The final mechanism for repaying these debts is still under discussion.

As a reminder, in Mykolaiv, members of the regional council supported a decision to launch the final stage of transferring Maternity Hospital No. 3 to regional ownership. Despite concerns among some council members regarding the facility’s future, authorities assured them that the medical institution will not lose its specialization and will even expand its range of services.

Regional officials denied any possibility of privatization or closure of the facility. According to them, the maternity hospital willcontinue to operate in its current format, and the range of medical services will even expand. Development plans include the creation of a third-level perinatal center and the introduction of a reproductive medicine program, which, according to officials, is currently lacking in the region.

Earlier, on April 9,the Mykolaiv City Counciladopted a resolution on a large-scale reorganization of the city’s healthcare network. It calls for merging hospitals into a single structure and transferring one of the maternity hospitals to regional ownership.

At the time,Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych explainedthat the facility was operating at a loss due to the low number of births and required constant additional funding.
