Resident of Odesa region tried to smuggle two Vinnytsia residents abroad

Border guards of the Podil detachment stopped a Geely car with two men of military age in the border area of Odesa region and called the police to the scene.

This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa Oblast.

As investigators found out, a 33-year-old resident of Rozdilnyansky district, in collusion with an unidentified person, transported two residents of Vinnytsia region to unrecognized Transnistria for a monetary reward. According to the criminal scheme, the driver was supposed to take the passengers to the border, from where they were to illegally cross it on foot.

Border guards drew up protocols against the men who were going to illegally cross the state border of Ukraine under Part 2 of Article 204-1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses. The violators face a fine or administrative arrest.

The police procedurally detained the organizer of the transaction and seized the vehicle, communications equipment and money as material evidence.

Investigators served the carrier a notice of suspicion of organizing illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine, by prior conspiracy of a group of persons, in relation to several persons, committed for mercenary motives. According to the sanction of Part 3 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, this crime is punishable by imprisonment for up to nine years with disqualification to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years with confiscation of property.

The court imposed on the suspect a pre-trial restraint in the form of detention with the right to be released on bail.

Earlier, law enforcement officers detained a border guard inspector in Odesa region on suspicion of providing an unlawful benefit to an official.
