Mykolaiv has initiated the reconstruction of its outdated rail and sleeper system. The project covers the renovation of almost 70 kilometers of tram tracks.

This is evidenced by data from the DREAM digital ecosystem.

The municipal enterprise Mykolaivelectrotrans has created a project for a large-scale reconstruction of its rail and sleeper facilities.

The project involves the renovation of 69.6 km of tram tracks, most of which have been in operation since the 1970s. According to the description, the old rails and sleepers have already reached the end of their standard service life, which increases the risk of derailments, deforms tram bodies, increases noise and vibrations in nearby buildings, and increases the cost of emergency repairs.

The reconstruction includes the dismantling of emergency sections, the arrangement of a ballast prism, the installation of modern rail and sleeper gratings and arrows, and the improvement of the roadway.

The project involves the replacement of about 15 km of track using 2,400 NT1 rails, 9,600 M24 butt bolts, 25,200 concrete sleepers with PANDROL FASTCLIP FE fasteners, and 10 sets of turnouts of various types.

The total budget of the project is UAH 300.2 million. The works should ensure reliable, safe, and environmentally friendly operation of Mykolaiv's tram transport, as well as contribute to the development of urban infrastructure and improve passenger comfort.

The reconstruction is in line with the National Development Strategy of Mykolaiv until 2027 and is part of the electric transport development project aimed at modernizing infrastructure and improving the efficiency of public transport. There is no confirmed funding yet.

Mykolaiv has also prepared an investment project for the modernization of urban electric transport aimed at providing the community with modern trolleybuses and trams. It is planned to raise more than UAH 2 billion for its implementation. The initiator and executor is Mykolaivelectrotrans, which operates 10 trolleybuses and 6 tram routes. It is planned to purchase 40 trolleybuses with emergency autonomous operation, another 40 with an autonomous operation of up to 20 km, and 31 new trams.
