In Odesa, a 23-year-old girl created a fake website to pay for parking and fraudulently collected 22,700 hryvnias in three months.
According to the press service of the National Police in Odesa region, in March, five residents of Odesa reported to law enforcement officers that their bank accounts had been robbed. Police found that a 23-year-old local resident was involved in the fraud.
The offender created a fake parking payment website identical to the official one and placed a QR code near a parking lot in the Peresypskyi district of the city. Drivers scanned the code and were redirected to a phishing page where they entered confidential banking data, such as card numbers, CVV codes, logins, and passwords.
After gaining access to the accounts, the girl logged into the victims' banking applications and transferred money to her own account. In total, she managed to misappropriate UAH 22,700.
The police seized her cell phone, laptop and bank card. The girl pleaded guilty and has already compensated for the losses. The indictment under Part 4 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine was sent to court. She faces up to 8 years in prison.
Law enforcement officials reminded that official payment for parking in Odesa does not require entering bank card details, CVV codes or passwords.
As Intent wrote, in December 2024, the executive committee of Odesa adopted new tariffs for paid parking services. From January 1, 2025, an hour of parking will cost 30 hryvnias. The tariff increase was voted for by 12 deputies. Prices for monthly and annual passes were also approved.
Before that, Odesa deputies discussed raising parking tariffs due to the need to balance the budget of enterprises that service parking lots.
It is also planned to create additional paid parking lots in the Prymorskyi district of Odesa.
Earlier, Odesa determined that parking spaces for light personal electric vehicles (electric scooters, monowheels, etc.) are parking areas.
