The owner of a land plot on the territory of the dilapidated former Karl Liebknecht Palace of Culture on Svobody Avenue in Odesa has removed an unauthorized landfill.

This was reported by the State Ecological Inspectorate of the Southwestern District.

The inspectors emphasized that this is not the first time that unauthorized dumpsites have been set up in this area. For example, last year, at the initiative of the inspectorate, the landowner cleaned up the area, but the situation repeated itself, and this year environmental inspectors again recorded the accumulation of household waste and dry vegetation on the same site. According to the owner of the site, this is due to the fact that residents of neighboring houses bring waste here.

The Tairova village council of Odesa district also eliminated an unauthorized landfill on its territory. In February 2025, inspectors found a dump of used tires and construction waste near the Tairovo cemetery.

In February, law enforcement officers served a notice of suspicion to the director of a utility company whose negligence led to large-scale fires at a household waste landfill in the village of Dobrozhanove, Odesa district. He was charged with negligence and pollution of the air with hazardous substances and waste due to violation of special rules, which posed a threat to life, health and the environment (Article 367(2), Article 241(2) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

In the same month, the administration of the Tuzly Estuaries National Park filed a complaint with law enforcement officers about unknown persons dumping garbage in the park - unknown persons threw nine bags of household garbage into the floodplain of the Khadzhider River.
