Two Odesa residents will stand trial for defrauding a conscript. They extorted money from a conscript for a fake route to Poland.

This was reported by the press service of the National Police in Odesa region.

Odesa law enforcement officers, together with border guards, exposed and documented the fraudulent actions of two local residents, who are only 19 years old. The investigation was conducted under the supervision of the Odesa Specialized Defense Prosecutor's Office of the Southern Region.

The police found out that the young men, through their friends, found a man of conscription age who was trying to avoid mobilization and decided to use his intentions for their own benefit. They convinced the victim that they could smuggle him to Poland outside the checkpoints, promising transportation and escort by a "guide" along the entire route - first to Kyiv and then to the neighboring country.

The fraudsters demanded $7,500 for the non-existent service. When one of the suspects received the full amount, they were detained. During the search, the police seized money and cell phones, which were later arrested by the court as material evidence.

Senior investigator of the territorial police unit Kateryna Boratynska said that the pre-trial investigation was completed. The young people are charged with seizing another's property by deception, committed by prior conspiracy under martial law, which caused significant damage to the victim. They face up to five years in prison under this article of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The indictment has already been submitted to court.

In Odesa, doctors of the VLC were exposed for making false certificates to avoid mobilization. For a fee, they issued fake conclusions on the fitness for service to conscripts. The investigation found that the doctors were connected to participants in a large-scale corruption scheme previously uncovered by the SBI. The scheme was organized by a local resident, involving an employee of the Service Support Center of the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, an employee of the Primorsk TCC and JV, and two other intermediaries.
