The Security Service's counterintelligence and the National Police provided details of the detention of a woman on Kulikove Pole in Odesa.

In particular, the SBU press service confirmed that they had prevented a terrorist attack in Odesa.

"Thanks to the proactive actions of law enforcement officers, a Russian agent who tried to blow up a regional shopping center was detained in the port city," the SBU said.

According to law enforcement, on July 17, on the instructions of the occupants, the woman was supposed to bring a backpack with an improved explosive device (IED) into the administrative building during rush hour, at noon, when the maximum number of people was there.

The SBU officers exposed the enemy's plan in advance and detained the terrorist when she was heading to the military registration and enlistment office with the equipped IED. The investigation revealed that the suspect was a 53-year-old resident of Volyn, who was remotely recruited by Russian special services.

According to their instructions, the agent arrived in Odesa, where she first conducted additional reconnaissance near a regional shopping center, and then received the coordinates of the cache with a ready-made IED from the curator. According to the legend, the woman was supposed to arrive at the military enlistment office to find out information about her allegedly missing nephew.

During the detention of the terrorist, a controlled explosion of an IED in the detainee's backpack took place at a safe distance. The National Police explosive experts worked at the scene. SBU investigators are preparing to serve the agent a notice of suspicion of attempted terrorist act).

If proven guilty, the woman faces up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
