Former editor-in-chief of Odesa Film Studio calls Russia's war against Ukraine the shame of the millennium

Russia's war against Ukraine is the shame of the millennium and a tragedy for both Russians and Ukrainians, caused by Putin's whim.

Stanislav Stryzheniuk, the patriarch of Ukrainian poetry and former editor-in-chief of the Odesa Film Studio, expressed this opinion in an interview with Intent.

In his opinion, the Russian leader has a failure to understand the situation.

"Putin invented the war for whom? He asked the State Duma for permission to use troops abroad. That is, we are "abroad" for them, and at the same time he says that we are one people. How can this be? And then we are one people with the Americans. I walked across the United States on foot from ocean to ocean. I did not see Ukraine anywhere. I met
Ukrainians who left here in New York, in California, in many cities, and in Baltimore. But, in any case, Ukraine is one for us," the poet emphasized.

He also emphasized that he had never considered the Odesa Film Studio in isolation from Ukrainian culture, and he was even fired as a nationalist.

"I was fired as a nationalist. I can say that for sure. Films should be made with Ukrainian actors, Ukrainian directors, with Ukrainian music, with Ukrainian songs. This is how I saw cinema in Odesa. The Odesa Film Studio is a Ukrainian studio. It began under Dovzhenko.
It continued with his soul. And it has remained, at least as a freedom-loving studio," he said.

Stanislav Stryzheniuk is a Ukrainian poet, publicist, translator, and playwright. He has been a member of the National Union of Writers of Ukraine since 1959. He is a laureate of the literary prizes named after K.G. Paustovsky, P.G. Tychyna, "Golden Pen", "Cultural Capital - 2019". After returning to Odesa in 1959, he was admitted to the Writers' Union of Ukraine. He worked as the head of the Odesa Regional Department of Culture, editor-in-chief of the Odesa Feature Film Studio, and executive secretary of the Odesa Regional Organization of the Writers' Union of Ukraine. Together with Ivan Haidaienko and Oles Honchar, he was one of the founders of the Odesa Regional Peace Council.
