Prosecutors of the Specialized Defense Prosecutor's Office in the Southern Region served a notice of suspicion to a law enforcement officer who tried to help a person liable for military service illegally cross the border.

According to the press service of the Specialized Prosecutor's Office, the law enforcement officer was detained and charged with obstructing the lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine during a special period and a measure of restraint in the form of detention without bail was imposed.

According to the investigation, in July 2025, the suspect met with an acquaintance in one of Odesa's districts and agreed to transfer a person liable for military service to the Republic of Moldova for USD 13 thousand. During the next meeting, he received a USD 1 thousand deposit.

During the next meeting near one of the city's cafes, he received a thousand USD deposit from a woman. On the day of the planned crossing, the man was driven to a gas station, where he and another man got into another car. To disguise themselves, both passengers were dressed in military uniforms, issued military cards of active military personnel who looked similar to them, and forged business trip certificates.

However, as they were approaching the border, the criminals were stopped by law enforcement officers, after which the suspect was detained. All persons involved in the crime and those who may have used their illegal services are currently being identified. If proven guilty, the law enforcement officer faces imprisonment for a term of five to eight years.

Earlier, investigators completed a pre-trial investigation against a 27-year-old citizen of a neighboring country and sent to court charges of facilitating the illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine. The foreigner was detained in June, and during the pre-trial investigation, the police found that, acting in collusion with an unidentified person who was looking for men with military service who wanted to illegally leave Ukraine via messenger, the foreigner transported them by car to border settlements in Odesa region to escape to Moldova.
