The Security Service of Ukraine prevented a terrorist act in Mykolaiv, which was aimed at the Ukrainian military. The SBU CI worked proactively and detained a Russian agent who was acting on the order of the FSB.

This was reported by the SBU.

The SBU CI prevented a terrorist attack in Mykolaiv by detaining a 20-year-old handyman from Kyiv who was recruited by the FSB via Telegram to carry out a sabotage. The agent was instructed online to make an improvised explosive device, which he equipped in a rented apartment, reinforced with metal nuts and disguised as a fire extinguisher for remote detonation.

The offender was supposed to plant this bomb under the official vehicle of Ukrainian soldiers fighting on the southern front, but he was exposed and detained while assembling the IED. The agent has now been served a notice of suspicion of preparing to commit a terrorist act, for which he faces up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.

Earlier, SBU officers detained an Armed Forces serviceman for high treason. He passed on the coordinates of Ukrainian troops and tried to recruit colleagues.

In Mykolaiv, law enforcement officers detained a serviceman of one of the Ukrainian Armed Forces aviation units on suspicion of treason. According to the investigation, he deliberately defected to the enemy and passed information to Russian intelligence about the location of Ukrainian troops, the movement of weapons and ammunition.

The investigation established that the man acted on pro-Russian motives and personal beliefs, realizing the socially dangerous nature of his actions. He used mobile phones and the Telegram messenger to transmit the coordinates of his unit and other military equipment to representatives of the Russian Federal Security Service.
