A former law enforcement officer who defected to the enemy was sentenced in Kherson. He was accused of defecting to the enemy and torturing detainees during the occupation of the city.

This is evidenced by the verdict of the Kherson City Court.

In the summer of 2022, a former law enforcement officer from the Genichesk district got a job during the occupation of Kherson. Investigators found that on July 1, 2022, he voluntarily took a job as a junior inspector of the 2nd category of the duty service of the occupation pre-trial detention center No. 1 of the so-called USIN, an illegally created " penitentiary service department."

He was suspected of collaboration and received a summons from the SBU in March 2025.

In the summer of 2022, one of the witnesses met the defendant, who had already worked in the SIZO and was satisfied with his work. Another witness said that he was detained by the Russian military and placed in a pre-trial detention center, where the accused served as a "squad leader" in a uniform with Russian insignia. Later he was transferred to Simferopol and then to Chongar, where the defendant participated in the reception of prisoners and applied electric shocks to the witness.

According to eyewitnesses, in the fall of 2022, Selyuk left Kherson and continued to serve on the side of the occupation authorities in Chongar, and later in Crimea.

The court found Selyuk guilty and sentenced him in absentia to 13 years in prison with confiscation of property. In addition, he is banned from holding positions in state and local government for 14 years after serving his sentence. The sentence has not yet entered into force.

Earlier, a resident of Kherson voluntarily took a job in an occupation colony and was sentenced to 12 years in prison for collaboration. The court rejected his explanation of financial difficulties and recognized service in the authorities of the aggressor state as a crime.
