Two former police officers from Kherson region who defected to the enemy have been sentenced to 15 years in prison.

According to the Kherson Region Prosecutor's Office, in February 2022, the convicts, while in the occupied Kherson region, betrayed the oath of a law enforcement officer of Ukraine. They voluntarily began to cooperate with the enemy and agreed to serve in the body illegally created by the occupation administration of the Russian Federation - the Genichesky District Police Department of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the Kherson region.

In their pseudo-posts, the defendants carried out the instructions and orders of the Russian occupation authorities, and together with representatives of the Russian security forces of the Russian Guard and OMON, served at the so-called "block posts" where "filtration measures" were carried out against local residents.

With the support of the public prosecution, the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office found two former police officers of the facility protection and public security platoon of the Kakhovka District Department of the Protection Police Department guilty of treason. The court sentenced both to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.

Earlier, their colleague, a police driver who worked at Police Department #2 of the Kherson District Department of the National Police, was sentenced . After the start of Russia's full-scale invasion and occupation of part of the Kherson region, the man broke his oath, voluntarily stayed in occupied Kherson and joined the illegal "Main Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kherson Region" created by the occupiers. For treason and collaboration with the enemy, the man was sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.

The court also sentenced two collaborators from the Kherson region to 15 years for working for the Russians, but so far in absence. After the Russian occupation, they voluntarily joined the ranks of the so-called "Russian police" in Oleshky. The men supported the invaders and became part of the occupation "law enforcement agency".
