Former head of municipal enterprise in Odesa region to be tried in court for embezzlement

Police complete investigation into ex-director of one of Podilskyi district's municipal institutions who misappropriated over UAH 270 thousand of public funds

According to the police of Odesa region, from November 2021 to April 2024, the woman, while holding the position of director of one of the municipal enterprises of the Kodyma City Council, accrued herself an increased salary and financial assistance, which entailed an excessive accrual of a single social contribution.

"According to the results of the forensic economic examination conducted by the police, the official caused the state losses in the amount of UAH 270.7 thousand by her illegal actions. After the fraud, the director resigned," the police added.

Having gathered enough evidence, investigators of the Podil District Police Department charged the suspect with misappropriation of property by abuse of office committed under martial law. The case file has been submitted to court. The woman faces up to eight years in prison with disqualification to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years.

Earlier, officials of the Odesa City Council, together with a business, organized a criminal scheme to purchase equipment for traffic lights, which resulted in the loss of more than UAH 15 million to the community budget. In 2024, the municipal enterprise of the Odesa City Council held 11 procurement procedures for the supply of balls for discharge lamps and tubes. The total value of the concluded agreements amounted to almost UAH 40.9 million. The law enforcement officers estimated the artificial overstatement of the cost of the supply to be more than five times higher.
