The State Ecological Inspectorate of the Southwestern District has recorded the fact of systemic land pollution in the city of Bolhrad, Odesa region.
This was reported by the press service of the inspectorate.
The inspection found that the city has no sewage treatment facilities to discharge sewage. Instead, wastewater from the centralized sewage system and sewage pumping stations is pumped outside the settlement and discharged without treatment onto a land plot of more than 3 hectares.
Such actions led to long-term soil contamination by sewage. The fact of pollution was confirmed by laboratory tests.
At the same time, the inspectors claim that officials of the Bolhrad City Council have not taken appropriate measures to build or restore the treatment facilities for many years.
"Such inaction of officials has signs of official negligence, which contributed to the emergence and spread of environmental pollution. The State Ecological Inspectorate is preparing calculations of the damage caused to land resources and materials to bring the guilty officials to justice, and also requires local authorities to immediately eliminate violations and carry out land pollution remediation," the inspectorate said.
In September, law enforcement officers uncovered a large-scale network of illegal gas stations in the Odesa region. The stations operated without licenses and tax records. Detectives of the Bureau of Economic Security shut down a large-scale network of illegal gas stations in Odesa region. The gas stations operated without cash registers and accounting systems, which caused the state to lose significant tax revenues.
