Crimeans travel to the Kuban to buy groceries because of high prices at home

Food prices in Crimea are rising every day. As a result, local residents are forced to cross the Kerch Bridge to the Kuban region in search of cheaper food.

This was reported by Krym.Realii.

Following the July energy crisis, stores in Crimea were forced to switch to running on generators. Fuel shortages also persist in the region. This has led to a sharp rise in food prices.

Russian authorities have acknowledged the problem. The occupation administration stated that it is monitoring the situation and documenting cases of unjustified, speculative price hikes. In addition, a maximum markup of 5% has been set for a number of socially essential goods.

Since food in the Kuban region costs one and a half to two times less than in Crimea, residents of the peninsula are traveling there to shop. This is being done not only by ordinary citizens but also by small shop owners. It remains profitable even after factoring in travel expenses.

Earlier reports indicated that a number of stores in occupied Crimea are experiencing a shortage of vodka and other hard liquor. Retailers attribute this to disruptions in the supply of goods from Russia due to transportation difficulties, and some retail chains are already preparing to close. According to retailers, trucks can no longer use the Kerch Bridge, and the alternative route is considered dangerous, which is why some carriers are refusing to make the trips.
