<span><span><span><span><span><span>In occupied Crimea, amid a prolonged energy crisis and severe power outages in residential buildings, the Russian-controlled authorities continue to provide an uninterrupted supply of electricity to large-scale construction projects. While local residents are left without basic living conditions for days on end, the peninsula’s energy resources are being prioritized for the construction of new residential complexes and infrastructure projects.</span></span></span></span></span></span>

Construction work is particularly active in Yalta and Sevastopol.
Crimeans are understandably surprised, as Moscow-controlled local authorities had previously announced a suspension of construction projects to conserve electricity. To conserve electricity, officials even ordered that elevators in Yalta’s apartment buildings be shut down.
Yalta-based human rights activistOksana Kravchenko-Stigoreskobelieves that additional power capacity is being reserved for local construction projects at the expense of the residential housing stock. Because of this,she appealed to the Russian head of Crimea,Sergey Aksyonov. The human rights activistnoted that increasing the load on the power grid due to construction in Yalta is unacceptable under emergency conditions.
It is unacceptable to supply new facilities at the expense of worsening the situation for existing consumers. The reliability of electricity supply to existing consumers is not a secondary issue compared to the interests of new construction. It cannot be considered normal for residential buildings to face power restrictions while, at the same time, construction of new facilities continues, capacity is reserved for them, and an additional load is placed on the grid infrastructure, and citizens are told to wait for future grid upgrades,” she stated.
Sergey Aksyonov did not comment on the statement. At the same time, the Crimean “Ministry of Housing and Urban Development” explained that construction is continuing due to the absence of a direct ban, and the issuance of technical specifications by the “Ministry of Fuel and Energy” indicates that the necessary capacity is available.
Earlier, the first autumn downpour turned Yevpatoria into a flooded city, forcing local residents to navigate the streets on shovels and rubber boats. The cause of this latest flooding was not only neglected storm drains but also mistakes made by designers during the multimillion-dollar reconstruction of the city’s waterfront.
