On June 28, the Russians attacked Dnipro with a new type of weapon, the Grom-1 missile bomb. The air defense system shot it down outside the city. This incident raised fears that the Grom-1 could be used against Odesa.

Military expert Oleksandr Kovalenko explained what Grom-1 is and whether it really poses a threat to the south of Ukraine for Accents.

He explained that this is not a new weapon, but a modified version of the X-38 missile. "Grom" has two versions - a missile (range up to 120 km) and an air bomb (up to 65 km).

According to Kovalenko, the destructive power of the Grom does not exceed that of other missiles that have already been used against Odesa, such as the X-59 or X-35.

"There is no Wunderwaffle here. This is not some kind of miracle weapon. Moreover, if we are talking about the missile version of the Grom, it can be shot down. It has subsonic speed, and most modern air defense systems are capable of intercepting it," the expert assured.

Thus, although the Grom-1 is another threat in the enemy's arsenal, it is not new, and the air defense system remains a key security factor for Odesa and other Ukrainian cities.
