Mykolaiv police are investigating the deaths of two young children who were left unattended by their mother overnight. According to the preliminary version, the cause of death was carbon monoxide poisoning. Investigative actions are underway to establish all the details of the tragedy and bring the perpetrators to justice.

This was reported by the police of Mykolaiv region.

During the inspection of the apartment, law enforcement officers noted that the hot water tap was open in the bathroom, which caused the apartment to be filled with steam and condensation on the ceiling. No external signs of violent death were found, but the children's bodies were sent for examination to determine the final cause.

The mother was detained. The police initiated a pre-trial investigation under Part 1 of Article 166 (malicious failure to fulfill parental duties) and Part 3 of Article 135 (leaving in danger, which caused death) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The woman faces up to 8 years in prison.
