During a meeting on November 19, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine dismissed two ministers at once - Justice Minister Herman Halushchenko and Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk .
According to Ukrinform, 323 MPs supported the draft resolution to dismiss Halushchenko and 315 MPs supported Hrynchuk.
Neither Justice Minister Herman Halushchenko, Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk, nor Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko showed up for the meeting to report to parliament, which angered MPs.
On November 10, the NABU announced a special operation to expose corruption in the energy sector. The investigation found that members of a criminal organization had built a large-scale scheme to influence strategic public sector enterprises, including Energoatom.
Employees of the Anti-Corruption Bureau conducted searches at the premises of businessman and co-owner of the Kvartal 95 studio Timur Mindich, as well as the Minister of Justice Herman Galushchenko, who previously served as the Minister of Energy.
On November 11, law enforcement officers detained five people as part of an investigation into corruption in the energy sector, and seven people were notified of suspicion. In particular, a businessman - the head of a criminal organization, a former adviser to the Minister of Energy, the executive director for physical protection and security of NNEGC Energoatom, as well as four people - employees of the back office for money laundering.
According to the head of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine, Oleksandr Abakumov, Timur Mindich left for abroad, and the NABU is now investigating how.
On November 12, the Cabinet of Ministers suspended Halushchenko from his duties as Minister of Justice. Commenting on the government's decision, the politician said that he "fully agrees" with the decision and "does not hold on to the position."
In her turn, Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk submitted her resignation. She also added that there were no violations of the law during her tenure and confirmed that such "facts cannot exist in principle."
