In the Mykolaiv region, the city of Novyi Buh is planning to reconstruct sewer networks. More than 300 million hryvnias are planned to be raised for this purpose. The reconstruction project was partially funded by Germany.

This was reported by the Center for Public Investigations with reference to the Dream digital ecosystem.

It is planned to reconstruct and develop the sewer system of the city of Novyi Buh, which was damaged by the military aggression of the Russian Federation.

The goal of the project is to improve the health and sanitary and epidemiological conditions of the population, as well as to ensure sustainable development of the community. The project is part of the development strategy of the Novobuzka territorial community for 2022-2027.

According to the project description, the sewage system of Novyi Buh is in critical condition due to numerous technical malfunctions and an urgent need for the construction of modern sewage treatment facilities.

The situation has been exacerbated by the damage caused by Russian aggression, which has led to the emergency state of the network. In addition, the system continues to discharge wastewater from the city's residents, whose number has increased in certain periods due to more than 20% of the influx of internally displaced persons, as well as from medical facilities, including hospitals, whose staff can cause biological diseases.

When the sewer system stops working, local residents look for alternative ways to dispose of wastewater by connecting to stormwater drains, which have no treatment facilities. In this way, sewage flows directly to the ponds and causes environmental damage, poses a threat of a sanitary crisis and significant health risks to the community, particularly during the warm season.

The project was initiated by the Novobuzka City Council. The budget of the sewerage network reconstruction project is UAH 305 million 958 thousand 954.

The reconstruction project was partially financed from the local budget and international funds. UAH 608,428 was received from the local budget, and UAH 10,214,410 from Germany.

The reconstruction will last for 36 months, until June 2028. The project is currently in preparation.

Mykolaiv also planned to build a new structure to strengthen the coast. The local budget allocated one million hryvnias out of the required forty. A new construction of a coastal protection structure is planned along Lazurna Street in Mykolaiv. The goal of the project is to create an effective and sustainable system of coastal protection against erosion and the negative effects of water masses.

They also decided to introduce energy independence and install cogeneration units. It is planned to spend almost one and a half billion hryvnias on this. This will provide heat to about 100,000 consumers, 130 social institutions, 16 medical facilities, schools, kindergartens and municipal social centers.
