In 2024, more than 4,000 residents of the Mykolaiv region were trained in civil defense. New standards and strategies for wartime security were introduced.

Oleksandr Cholpan, Deputy Head of the Training and Methodological Center for Civil Protection and Life Safety of Mykolaiv Oblast, spoke about the main areas of work and innovations.

According to him, the Center covers a wide range of training activities, focusing on the importance of civil protection in this difficult period. In particular, changes have been made to the fire safety curriculum, as well as to distance and offline learning for residents of Mykolaiv region, especially for children and people with disabilities. Particular attention was paid to the population of the de-occupied territories, where there is a high risk of explosive ordnance.

In addition, civil defense training and exercises are conducted for management, employees of enterprises and the community, as well as for students and teachers. Due to the changed conditions of the war, civil protection programs have been adapted, including work with children and the organization of safety in shelters.

In 2024, more than 4,000 people received civil protection education and training, and more than 170 special site-specific exercises were held. More activities are planned for 2025 to help improve the level of safety and emergency preparedness among the population.

More than UAH 462 million has been allocated for the social protection program in Mykolaiv. It is aimed at the safety of citizens, protection of territories, cultural heritage and the environment. In 2025, UAH 141.4 million will be allocated, in 2026 - UAH 156.1 million, and in 2027 - UAH 164.6 million.

Last year, the city opened a safety class for schoolchildren to help them practice emergency response skills. It is equipped with training areas with teaching materials, devices, and models that simulate real-life circumstances.

In addition, in November, the Verkhovna Rada passed Bill No. 11543, which provides for new security measures in schools. The changes are aimed at strengthening the protection of children and establishing uniform rules for staying in educational institutions.
