On the night of March 5, the Ukrainian Navy, along with units of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, attacked Russian troops deployed on the Syvash drilling rig at the Golitsyn gas field in the Black Sea.

As reported by the Ukrainian Navy, the Russian military used the platform as a point of observation and communication relay, as well as for the deployment of electronic warfare and short-range air defense. From there, the enemy coordinated attack drones that attacked infrastructure in Odesa and Mykolaiv regions and threatened civilian shipping.

During the operation, Ukrainian forces used unmanned maritime drones and aviation drones. As a result, enemy command and control and communications equipment was destroyed, and enemy manpower losses were inflicted.

In addition, during the battle, the Navy destroyed a Russian Ka-27 anti-submarine helicopter that was trying to land on the rig site.

The Navy emphasized that the operation was aimed at reducing the threat to civilian shipping and Ukrainian infrastructure in the south of the country.
