A resident of the Kherson region got lost near the border while trying to get to Romania outside of the checkpoints. He was found unconscious by border guards and rescuers, who helped him and took him to the hospital.

This was reported by the press service of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.

According to the press service, at night, the border guards of the Selyatyn department received a message from the State Emergency Service: a man who had gotten lost near the border and asked for help.

The joint actions of the border guards and rescuers quickly found the man. He was unconscious, had a head injury and signs of frostbite. He was provided with first aid and taken to a hospital.

During the investigation, the border guards found that the victim, a resident of Kherson region born in 1995, tried to illegally enter Romania, but could not cope with the difficulties of the route and turned to the State Emergency Service for help.

The press service emphasized that this is not the first such case. Border guards reminded that crossing the state border outside checkpoints is not only illegal but also extremely dangerous to life and health.

In January, a court in Mykolaiv allowed the director of a charitable foundation and a former deputy from Odesa region, who is suspected of organizing the illegal departure of conscripts from Kherson region abroad, to be taken into custody.

According to the investigation, the man registered conscripts as drivers of humanitarian cargo so that they could legally cross the border and not return to Ukraine. Investigators found that he sent letters to the Kherson Regional Military Administration with lists of men who were allegedly involved in the delivery of humanitarian aid to EU countries, including Poland, Austria, Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia. Some of the men crossed the border through the Mayaky-Udobne and Hrushev checkpoints and never returned to Ukraine.
