In downtown Odesa, water and power outages occurred simultaneously, causing some city services to become temporarily unavailable. Among them was the public restroom on Soborna Square, which found itself in the spotlight not only because of utility issues but also due to complaints about a Russian-language sign.

This was reported by Intent correspondent Natalia Dovbysh.

On June 17, residents of part of Odesa were left without two basic utilities at the same time—water and electricity. As a result, the public restroom on Soborna Square also temporarily ceased operations.

According to utility officials, scheduled maintenance work on the power grid was underway in Odesa’s Primorsky District from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., resulting in a power outage. At the same time, repairs to the water main are being carried out in the city, leaving several districts without water.

At the same time, a reporter noted a sign posted on the restroom with text in Russian. The question of whether such signage complies with current language legislation remains open.

Additionally, some of Odesa’s electric transit services will operate on a modified schedule due to scheduled work on the power infrastructure. For certain routes, city authorities are organizing additional bus trips to ensure passenger transportation.

According to city hall, due to a temporary power outage at certain traction substations serving the city’s electric transit system, tram and trolleybus service will be partially restricted throughout the day in the Kyivskyi and Primorskyi districts of Odesa.

In March, Odessa decided to introduce a fee for using public restrooms. The cost of a single visit will be 10 hryvnias, and certain categories of citizens will be able to use the restrooms for free. A list of categories of people eligible to use the restrooms for free has been established.
