Prosecutors Charge Officials for 123.8M Budget Embezzlement Scheme

Prosecutors of the special defense prosecutor's offices in the Eastern and Southern regions have served notices of suspicion to officials of housing and maintenance departments and divisions who embezzled budget funds allocated for defense.

According to the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office, in particular, in Odesa region, officials of the Housing and Utilities Department together with an individual entrepreneur embezzled budget funds when purchasing wood at inflated prices, causing the state UAH 4.1 million in losses.

At the same time, the head of the State Enterprise for Environmental Management was exposed in Mykolaiv, who entered into an agreement with a company to purchase timber at inflated prices. He involved the head of the fuel group and an authorized person of the Mykolaiv KEU in this scheme. These actions of the suspects caused losses to the state in the amount of almost UAH 2.3 million.

In Kropyvnytskyi, the head of the KEU entered into an agreement with a limited liability company to purchase beds at an inflated price, which caused losses to the state in the amount of UAH 352 thousand.

In Vinnytsia, officials of the KEV spent 508 thousand hryvnias of budget funds excessively during the overhaul of the hospital's dining room in 2020-2022.

In Zaporizhzhia, a criminal scheme involving officials of the Economic and Environmental Committee of Ukraine, who entered into contracts with contractors for the purchase of timber at inflated prices, was exposed. The state suffered almost UAH 15.5 million in losses.

In Luhansk region, the management of the KEV, through controlled enterprises, purchased firewood at inflated prices without an open bidding procedure, seizing more than UAH 101 million.

Thus, the total amount of damage caused to the state is UAH 123.8 million. All participants in the schemes are charged with misappropriation, embezzlement of property on a large scale, official negligence, and legalization of the proceedings of crime.
