Police investigators and military prosecutors have sent to court the case of a serviceman of a naval unit accused of influence peddling.
According to the press service of the National Police in Odesa region, the 47-year-old defendant promised his clients to arrange for their unfitness for military service and exclusion from military registration for $900, and for 3,000 hryvnias - unfilled summonses with the stamp and signatures of officials of the territorial center for recruitment and social support, citing his connections with the latter and the ability to influence them.
The Specialized Defense Prosecutor's Office of the Southern Region clarified that there were three summonses in total, i.e., one thousand hryvnias per document. The client had to fill out these summonses on his own, putting the required date of alleged appearance at the territorial center for recruitment and social support, which excluded the possibility of real summonses being served.
In June, acting under the control of law enforcement agencies, the citizen sent an unlawful benefit in the amount of UAH 3,000 to the card account of a serviceman, and later, during a personal meeting, provided USD 500.
On June 20, 2024, the serviceman was detained by law enforcement officers while receiving the second part of the bribe in the amount of USD 400.
He has now been chosen as a measure of restraint in the form of detention with an alternative in the form of bail in the amount of UAH 484 thousand. The charges were announced under Part 2 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Therefore, if his guilt is proven, the serviceman faces a fine of 2,000 to 5,500 tax-free minimum incomes, i.e. 34,000 to 93,500 hryvnias, or imprisonment for a term of two to five years.
