The Ovidiopol District Court of Odesa Region has found guilty of abuse of influence a man who was detained for promising to help his friend get a job with the Security Service of Ukraine.
According to the court' s verdict, the man was detained in the summer of 2025.
In April of the same year, in a telephone conversation, the man offered his friend to help him get a job at the SBU for $25,000. Immediately after that conversation, he received $3,000, and then in June 2025, another $6,000. That's when he was detained.
In court, the accused pleaded guilty. He was fined 375 thousand hryvnias. In addition, the court applied a special confiscation of 3 thousand dollars as the proceeds of the crime. The remaining $5.8 thousand was transferred to the defendant in imitation bills.
This is not the first time fines have been imposed for such a crime. For example, in December, a court found two residents of Podilskyi district of Odesa region guilty of influence peddling and fined them UAH 76,500.
A 44-year-old resident of Podilsk and a 35-year-old resident of the former Baltskyi district promised a man liable for military service to help him avoid the draft by employing him at a utility company that reserves its employees.
The offenders assured the client that they would arrange everything themselves, as they were allegedly able to influence the necessary people to make the right decision. They explained the step-by-step booking procedure and ordered the client to bring personal documents required for employment. The dealers estimated their services at $950, which had to be paid in two tranches: $650 deposit and the rest after receiving the relevant booking documents.
