The court found two residents of Podilskyi district of Odesa region guilty of influence peddling and fined them UAH 76,500.

This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the National Police of Ukraine in Odesa region.

The court took into account the repentance of the accused and their cooperation with the investigation. In the spring of this year, a 44-year-old resident of Podilsk and a 35-year-old resident of the former Baltskyi district were detained while receiving $650, who promised a man liable for military service to help him avoid the draft by employing him at a utility company that reserves its employees.

The criminals assured the client that they would arrange everything themselves, as they were allegedly able to influence the necessary people to make the right decision. They explained the step-by-step booking procedure and ordered the client to bring personal documents required for employment. The dealers estimated their services at $950, which had to be paid in two tranches: $650 deposit and the rest after receiving the relevant booking documents.

The police initiated criminal proceedings, and the court imposed on the offenders pre-trial restraints in the form of detention with the right to be released on bail in the amount of over UAH 240,000 and nightly house arrest.

In the end, they got off with fines, albeit almost three times the amount of the bribe.

Earlier, the Prymorskyi District Court of Odesa found a volunteer of the International Charitable Foundation "Trust and Future" guilty of abuse of influence. The volunteer and his accomplice created a belief in the client that they were able to exert real influence on the right people, and the convict met with the client and received 17 thousand US dollars from him, which is 701 thousand 743 hryvnias at the exchange rate.
