Odesa-based journalist, public figure and writer Zoya Kazanzhy has joined the supervisory board of the public broadcaster, the National Public Broadcasting Company of Ukraine.

This was reported by the journalist herself.

According to her, she joined the Supervisory Board under the quota of the European Solidarity political party, as provided for by the Law of Ukraine "On Public Media of Ukraine". In particular, out of 16 members of the Supervisory Board, nine must be representatives of non-governmental organizations, and seven must be representatives of political parties represented in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. The term of office is 5 years. The work is free of charge.

What she is known for

Zoya Kazanzhy was born in the village of Lyman, Tatarbunary district, Odesa region. She graduated from the Institute of Journalism at the Shevchenko University of Kyiv. She worked as a correspondent, columnist, and headed a department at newspapers in the Odesa region. She was the editor-in-chief of the weekly Slovo. She headed the press service of the Central Election Commission when Serhiy Kivalov was the head of the commission. Since 2002, she has been working as a media consultant and media trainer in OSCE programs. She is the owner and director of the Zhaba creative bureau. She was an active participant of the Odesa Euromaidan. In 2014-2015, she worked as an advisor to the head of the Odesa Regional State Administration, Ihor Palytsia.

What does the EU quota mean?

The journalist emphasized that the quota is a mechanism for forming the council, not political representation.

"Once appointed, all members of the supervisory board have one duty - to be independent. Not to represent parties, not to defend political interests, but to act solely in the interests of the Public Broadcaster and society. We do not manage news and do not interfere in editorial work. UA:PBC journalists remain independent in their decisions. And this is the basic value of public broadcasting - it works not for the government, not for the owners and not for the rating, but for the society," the journalist emphasized.

The National Public Broadcasting Company of Ukraine or UA:PBC is a Ukrainian public broadcasting company that includes the national TV channels Pervyi, Suspilne Kultura, Suspilne Sport, radio channels Ukrayinske Radio, Radio Promin, Radio Kultura, Radiotochka, and Radio Ukraine International, 24 regional branches, as well as digital platforms, including online media outlets Suspilne Novyny, Suspilne Kultura, and Suspilne Sport. UA:PBC is a joint-stock company with 100% of its shares owned by the state.
