The Podilskyi City District Court of Odesa Region found a serviceman guilty of fraud and evasion of military service by self-mutilation or other means and sentenced him to a two-year probationary period.
According to the court's verdict, the probationary period was substituted for the actual five years of imprisonment that he was to receive after being found guilty.
The man was mobilized and served, but in the fall he filed a report for discharge for family reasons with the commander of the military unit, asking to be released from military service due to the need to care for his wife with a disability and provided a certificate of her health condition, which was forged.
By using a deliberately forged document when writing a discharge report as a basis for discharge from military service for family reasons, the convict misled the command of the military unit about the existence of legal grounds for discharge, thereby actually evading further military service.
At the court hearing, the accused pleaded guilty to the crime in full and confirmed the circumstances of his criminal offenses, while stating that he was very sorry for the crime, compensated in full the damage caused to the state represented by the military unit, sincerely repented and asked not to be punished severely.
Earlier, the State Bureau of Investigation sent to court the case of two servicemen accused of obstructing the lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Two servicemen of one of the law enforcement agencies helped men of conscription age to avoid mobilization for a year. They passed on information about the locations of mobile checkpoints and the current places of delivery of calls in one of the communities of Odesa region.
