Odesa Faces Massive Energy Crisis After Russian Shelling Causes ₴528K Damage

A nighttime shelling of energy infrastructure in Odesa's Kyiv district on February 18 resulted in the fire of transformers and outbuildings.

According to the press service of the State Ecological Inspectorate of the Southwestern District, almost 109 tons of carbon dioxide were released into the air.

The damage to the atmosphere amounted to UAH 528 thousand. All the information was transferred to the Operational Headquarters of the State Environmental Inspectorate of Ukraine to be included in the unified register of environmental damage caused by armed aggression.

Then, massive Russian shelling of a residential area of Odesa caused large-scale power and heat outages. 14 schools, 13 kindergartens and more than 500 residential buildings in a large neighborhood were left without electricity and heating.

The local authorities opened heating stations and "Points of Resilience" where people could keep warm, charge their phones and drink hot tea.

On February 13, around 18:10, Russia launched a missile attack on a port infrastructure facility in Odesa. It has been preliminarily established that the attack was carried out by an Iskander-M ballistic missile.

On the night of February 14, Russian troops carried out another attack with attack drones, once again targeting port facilities in the region.

On the night of February 12-13, Odesa region was subjected to a large-scale attack by Russian drones. Explosions were heard both in Odesa and in the region. The main blow fell on Izmail district.

On February 9, a funeral was held in Pivdenne for Serhiy Maistrenko, a seaport worker who was killed on February 5 as a result of a Russian army missile strike on the city's civilian infrastructure.

On January 31, a Russian missile strike on the historic center of Odesa damaged the Philharmonic, museums: the literary, historical, local history, archaeological, and Western and Eastern art museums, as well as the Bristol Hotel.
