The man who shot at employees of the TCC and SP in Odesa was sentenced to five years in prison. However, he was granted a three-year probationary period and was not required to serve his sentence.
This is stated in the verdict of the Primorsky District Court of Odessa.
On January 9, 2026, a native of the Bolhrad District refused to present his military registration documents when requested by TCC personnel. He drew a weapon and fired at least three shots at the servicemen, wounding two of them.
After his arrest, the convicted man’s home was searched. There, authorities found an arsenal of unregistered firearms and ammunition. Most of the seized pistols were officially sold as signal and starter pistols (for blank rounds), but the owner had manually removed the safety mechanisms from the barrels and blocked the gas ports. This rendered the weapons capable of actual firing.
In handing down the sentence, the court took into account the man’s admission of guilt and the fact that he had donated funds to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, as well as fully compensated the victims for material and emotional damages. The victims, however, waived their claims against the convicted man.
Earlier, the court found a resident of the Odesa region guilty of attempting to illegally transport men across the state border. He was sentenced to five years in prison, with a one-year suspended sentence.
The investigation established that the convicted man had agreed, as part of an arrangement with an unidentified group of individuals, to transport two men in a“Mitsubishi Pajero” from Odesa to the border near Bilyayivka. In this way, he was to help them illegally cross the Ukrainian state border. Along the way, he instructed the passengers on what to say at checkpoints if they were stopped.
