Mykolaiv is expanding its circle of international partners and strengthening interregional ties. As part of this strategy, the city signed a formal cooperation agreement with the Greek municipality of Syros-Ermoupolis. The partnership is aimed at developing joint projects and systematic interaction between the cities in various spheres of life.

This was reported by the Mykolaiv City Council.

The event was attended by Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych, City Council Secretary Dmytro Falco, and Mayor of the Greek municipality Alexis Athanasiou. The discussion was also attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps of both countries and the leadership of the Admiral Makarov National University.

This agreement is the result of agreements reached last year. The document provides for an active exchange of experience in introducing innovations in community development, deepening cultural and trade ties, and implementing joint educational projects. The mayor emphasized that such interaction takes relations between the cities to a new level and will help strengthen mutually beneficial partnerships.

Senkevych also thanked his Greek colleagues for their support in difficult times. In total, the city already has 30 partner cities, and 18 twinning agreements were concluded after the start of the full-scale invasion. This demonstrates the community's consistent efforts to attract international assistance and expand the circle of foreign allies.

Earlier, Ukraine and its European partners planned to integrate transport routes into the European network, including the Alexandroupolis-Odesa section. Representatives of Ukraine, neighboring countries, and the European Commission discussed the development of the corridor to increase economic resilience and mobility in times of war.

In early September of that year, an inaugural online meeting was held between representatives of the ministries responsible for transport and infrastructure of Ukraine, Greece, Romania, Bulgaria, and Moldova, as well as the European Commission.
