Mykolaiv Inflation Hits 1.1% in January 2025 - Food Prices Surge

At the beginning of the year, inflation rose in Mykolaiv region. Vegetables, fish, and cheese went up the most, while eggs fell significantly in price. Tariffs for communication, garbage collection and transportation services also increased, while the cost of utilities remained almost unchanged.

According to the Main Department of Statistics in Mykolaiv region, the inflation rate in January 2025 was 1.1%, slightly lower than the national rate of 1.2%. The largest price increases were observed in the categories of food, transportation, and communications.

Prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by an average of 1.5%. The most expensive items were:

Prices for meat and meat products also increased (+1.2%), milk (+0.9%), and sunflower oil (+1.0%).

The largest decline in prices was recorded for eggs, which fell by 25.7%. The cost of pasta (-1.6%) and sugar (-0.9%) also decreased.

Tariffs for housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels increased slightly by 0.2%. However, fees for cleaning and garbage collection increased by as much as 12.5%.

Prices for transportation services increased by 0.6%, driven by a 3.2-1.3% rise in fuel prices (diesel, A-95 and A-92).

The communications sector recorded one of the largest price increases - 8.5%. In particular, local telephone tariffs rose by 29.1%, and mobile phone tariffs by 15.6%. Educational services went up by 2.1%, driven by an increase in preschool education fees (+18.8%).

Among the positive changes for consumers is an 8.1% decrease in prices for clothing and footwear. In particular, shoes became cheaper by 9.7%, and clothing by 7.4%.

January 2025 was marked by rising prices for food, transportation, and communications, while some goods fell in price.

The NBU forecasts a decline in inflation in 2025. By the end of the year, it will reach 6.9%, gradually approaching the NBU's target of 5%. This will be facilitated by monetary policy measures, an increase in food supply, and an easing of external price pressure.

Mykolaiv has also introduced new tariffs for public transportation, including preferential terms for students and schoolchildren. During the martial law period, schoolchildren will be able to travel free of charge.

In addition, starting from March 1, 2025, the tariffs for heat energy will be changed to include the costs of heat production, transportation and supply. At the same time, according to the law, tariffs for end users will remain at the pre-war level for the period of martial law.
